Kahl Goldfarb received his degree in physical therapy from the University of New England in 1997. In 2005, after a four year doctoral program and after passing the national orthopaedic practical exam, written exam and doctoral dissertation, Kahl received a post graduate doctoral degree from the world-renowned Ola Grimsby Institute. He is a doctor of physical therapy, a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist (only 3% of physical therapists in the country have achieved this specialty), a Nationally Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and has attained advanced work as an Orthopaedic Manual Therapist. Dr. Goldfarb is certified as a selective functional movement assessment (SFMA) and functional movement screen (FMS) specialist and specializes in advanced manual therapy techniques, biomechanical evaluations, and spinal dysfunctions. He has also taken advanced course work in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) and Postural Respiration Institute (PRI) with an emphasis on athletic performance.
Kahl was the head physical therapist for the San Diego Padres (2015 & 2016 seasons) and was adjunct professor for the Physical Therapy Doctoral Program at San Diego State University (2014-2016). He instructed the lecture and lab portion of Musculoskeletal Therapeutics Course to the graduate students. He has been a lecturer for UCSD Sports Medicine Department presenting to the sports medicine physicians and fellows in the advances in orthopedic physical therapy. Other lectures include Stanford University, The Olympic Training Center, University of San Diego, Senior Olympics, Sharp Sports Medicine Department, Sharp Rees Stealy, and many sports teams. Dr Goldfarb also worked with NASA and UCSD to provide information on how to assist astronauts in preventing spinal pathologies after returning to earth. He also is a presenter for SI-bone and lectures and teaches surgeons diagnosis and treatment of the sacroiliac joint.
Dr Goldfarb has co-authored and assisted in chapters of books in the Orthopaedic and sports performance world. He has also presented on topics such as Thoracic Outlet in Professional Pitchers, Back Pain vs. Pelvic Dysfunction, Plyometrics for the Elite Athlete, Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement for the Older Athlete, Foot and Ankle injuries, Differential Diagnosis of the Cervical Spine vs. the Shoulder, Orthopaedic Evaluation for Nurse Practitioners and Running Biomechanics for Injury Prevention.
Kahl has helped save the careers of many professional MLB, NFL, PGA, AVP, motocross, and mixed martial arts, surfing and Olympic athletes. He has helped many pitchers diagnose and recover from thoracic outlet surgery and has had the joy of watching many of these players such as Chris Young who wasn’t expected to pitch again, not only extend his career by at least 5 years but also become “Come Back Player of the Year” and pitched for two wins in the World Series in order to win the Championship. Other professional pitchers have had excellent comebacks as well such as Clayton Richard and Tyson Ross (All Star pitcher). Kahl enjoys working with pitchers to help them perform at the highest level while preventing injury. A few examples are Cy Young and All Star pitchers Barry Zito and Jake Peavy.
